Baahubali sequel to start shoot in December

Here’s a word on the eagerly awaited sequel of Baahubali — the film starts rolling next month, on December 15 to be precise. Neck deep in the pre-production work of the film, filmmaker Rajamouli took time off to confirm the news to us.

He said, “We start shooting in mid-December and hope to wrap up by July 2016.” He also clarified that no significant addition will be made to the original cast of the film. The original plan was to resume shooting for the second part of Baahubali in November but the pre-production details took longer than expected.

A source close to the project adds, “Since Baahubali Returns was planned simultaneously with the first film, much of the war scenes and some other key sequences have already been shot. Now about 70 per cent of the film remains to be shot with Anushka Shetty, Prabhas and Sathyaraj leading the cast this time.”

Baahubali - The Conclusion to release in late 2016?

Article Credits : Firstpost.com

SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi is definitely 2015’s biggest blockbuster. The film has grossed over Rs 600 crore (US$91 million) worldwide and was also the first dubbed Hindi film to gross over Rs 100 Crore worldwide.

An international version of the film, edited by Vincent Tabaillion, was screened in the festival circuits, where it got rave reviews and new buyers. The lucrative China market has been snapped by ESTARS, who distributed Aamir Khan’s PK there. Baahubali is likely to release in China for the Chinese New Year in February 2016.

The other international markets where the film will release later this year or early 2016 are Taiwan, Germany, Japan, Korea, Spain, and the first Indian film which will have a Latin America release.

Meanwhile, there is a huge buzz about Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion, the sequel to Baahubali –The Begining. At the Busan Film Festival, SS Rajamouli said: “We have already shot 40% of Baahubali: The Conclusion but haven't yet started on the rest because the team took some time to celebrate success of part 1.

The sequel will start rolling by end November at the film’s standing sets in Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City and some forest sequences will be shot in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh."

He added, “We realize that the commercial success of part one was due to the visual effects and the war scenes. And I know people will be expecting more from the second part. I don’t want to disappoint the audiences. It will be much bigger.”

In a chat with FirstPost, the producer of the film Shobu Yarlagadda of Arka Media said, “Due to the time taken for VFX and special effects, the release which was scheduled for next summer, has been pushed back to the end of 2016. The VFX is being done by multiple studios but lead studio executing the major work is Makuta VFX.”

Yarlagadda also said Srinivas Mohan, who supervised VFX effects in part 1, has been replaced by Kamal Kannan, noted VFX supervisor who was involved in Rajamouli’s earlier Eega (Makhi in Hindi).

The final 35 minutes of Baahubali featured an epic war scene that has had repeat audiences returning to theatres. In part 2, the war scenes will continue and the producers want to make it look richer with more grandeur and state of art VFX work.

Yarlagadda concludes by saying, “ Baahubali 1 and 2 was to be made on a budget of $40 million, but now we are scaling up the production as it is likely to touch $50 million as expectations are huge for the sequel . Contrary to rumours there are no new additions to the original star cast. India release of Baahubali 2 will happen only end 2016; the exact date and month are still being worked out. ”

'Baahubali' Renews Assault On 'PK' Global Record With Latin American Release

ARTICLE CREDITS : FORBES.COM

Baahubali: The Beginning, the blockbuster action epic that took India by storm this past summer, has picked up its sword again with the goal of slaying two giants of Indian cinema–or at least their box office records.

Last summer Baahubali: The Beginning became the highest grossing Indian film ever to screen in the country’s domestic market, with a 5 billion rupee (US $77 million) theatrical gross. It earned another billion rupees (US $15 million) overseas, primarily in non-resident Indian communities, to accumulate a smashing 6 billion rupee (US $92 million) worldwide tally

Only two films stand in the way of Baahubali reaching the summit as the highest grossing movie in Indian cinema history. PK, a thoughtful comedy starring Aamir Khan, earned 7.35 billion rupees (US $110 million) worldwide in 2014-2015. And Bajrangi Bhaijaan, a family drama starring Salman Khan, took in 6.26 billion rupees (US $95 million) globally when it released simultaneously with Baahubali in 2015.

Now Baahubali is preparing to unleash an attack on those two films’ records, with a string of releases aimed at mainstream audiences in numerous overseas territories. The latest deal to be announced is a rights acquisition by Sun Distribution Group, which plans to distribute the film across al of Latin America’s major territories.

The deal was brokered by Francois da Silva and his Arka Mediaworks International–a subsidiary of Baahubali‘s production company Arka Mediaworks–that was set up to facilitate international licensing of the film.

"Baahubali has achieved so many things and acquired such a special position in Indian cinema that we are in the fortunate position of being able to negotiate with the top distributors in territories around the world,” said Da Silva.

Bhai (Salman) tries twice but fails to beat Baahubali Record!

If you ever doubted that Salman Khan’s the undisputed King of Bollywood, this should steal the deal once and for all. His latest family saga, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, directed by Sooraj R Barjatya though is taking the BO by storm, it has failed to beat the initial records set by Baahubali. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film has already collected Rs 143.39 crore in just the first five days of its release. His earlier release Bajrangi Bhaijaan earned Rs 151.05 crore in first five days.

In case you’re thinking Salman Khan is unbeatable, you’re wrong. Both Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo failed to beat the first five days collection record of Baahubali' by a huge margin of over 100 crores.

Director SS Rajamouli’s magnum-opus Baahubali grossed Rs 254 crore worldwide in first five days. Its Hindi version did phenomenally well. Baahubali’s gathered around Rs 34.60 crore in the Hindi speaking belt.
Overall, it’s a stiff battle between Baahubali, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Only time will declare the ultimate box office winner. However with Baahubali gearing up for an international release soon in China, Latin America and Europe, taking on Baahubali's records in going to be an uphill task.

Baahubali is Most Wanted in Europe. It's Practically a Fight.

"THERE'S A GREAT DEMAND FOR BAAHUBALI IN EUROPE. THERE'S NEVER BEEN SO MUCH DEMAND FOR AN INDIAN FILM. SEVERAL DISTRIBUTORS ARE LITERALLY FIGHTING TO BUY THE FILM'S RIGHTS."

Director SS Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali, which has emerged as one of the biggest Indian blockbusters, has now caught the attention of international buyers, so much so that the distributors in Europe are fighting for its rights.

International rights of Baahubali have already been sold in Latin America and China. "There's a great demand for Baahubali in Europe. There's never been so much demand for an Indian film. Several distributors are literally fighting to buy the film's rights. This is really good from Indian films' perspective," said filmmaker and European distributor Pierre Assouline on the sidelines of Indywood Film Market.

"Film market is the need of the hour. It helps in finding films international distributors. I'm sure there are many good Indian films that deserve a release in other countries as well," he added. Mr Assouline is among several distributors who've come to attend IMF, hoping to find Indian films to invest in.

The second part of the film, Baahubali - The Conclusion, starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah Bhatia and Anushka Shetty, will release in 2016.

'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' : Salman starrer fails to beat 'Baahubali' first day record

Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor's much-hyped film "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" (PRDP) has failed to beat the opening day worldwide box office collection record of SS Rajamouli 's "Baahubali - the Beginning" (Bahubali).

Though opened to fantastic response, "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" earned less than "Baahubali" in India as well as in the international market. In India, "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" minted Rs 40.35 crore net income on its first day, while "Baahubali" minted approximately Rs 50 crore from domestic box office

And in the overseas market, the US-Canada Thursday's preview box office income of "Baahubali" is closer to "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" opening day box office collection record.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, "Baahubali" minted $1 million $ 1,294,451 [₹ 8.20 cr] from just the US-Canada box office.

"#Baahubali [Telugu] is SENSATIONAL in USA. Thu previews cross $ 1 mn: $ 1,294,451 [₹ 8.20 cr]. HEROIC start. Some screens yet to report," he tweeted.

On the other hand, "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" minted $ 1,604,914 (₹ 10.62 cr), which includes the collections from the US-Canada, UK-Ireland, UAE-GCC, Australia and Rest of the World.

"#PremRatanDhanPayo grosses a MASSIVE $ 1.6 million on Day 1 [Thursday; non-holiday there] in the international markets... contd," Adarsh tweeted, adding, "#PremRatanDhanPayo USA-Canada $ 405,100, UK $ 290,717, UAE-GCC $ 654,130, Aus 62,558, ROW $ 192,408. Total: $ 1,604,914 [₹ 10.62 cr]. WOW!"

The opening day worldwide box office collection of "Baahubali" is approximately Rs 58 crore, while "PRDP" stands at Rs 51 crore.

Nevertheless, "PRDP" has recorded the highest first-day collection at the overseas box office, according to Fox Star. "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo", written and directed by Sooraj Barjatya, is released in 1100 screens overseas, while over 4500 screens in India. The film features Salman, Sonam, Swara Bhaskar, Deepak Dobriyal, Anupam Kher and Neil Nitin Mukesh in key roles.
