Unique honor for Rebel star Prabhas

Prabhas is a superstar of sorts and is a Pan-Indian star now post the success of Saaho and Baahubali series. The crowds love him and this has once again been proved.

The news is that Prabhas is the only South actor to feature in the list to top 10 sexiest Asian men for the year 2019. The poll was conducted by a UK based company and Hrithik Roshan stood first.

Prabhas has a massive following in the country as his last film, Saaho, in spite of a flop talk collected more than 120 crores in Bollywood. He will next be seen in a film called Jaan which will be directed by Radha Krishna.

Prabhas has been ranked at No. 7 in the list of Sexiest Men in Asia for the year 2019, in a poll conducted by  London-based portal.  Hrithik Roshan has topped the list.

Hrithik's Bollywood colleague Shahid Kapoor is at No. 2, while TV actor Vivian Dsena (about whom south Indians have no clue) is at No. 3.  'War' actor Tiger Shroff is at No. 4, while British-Asian pop star Zayn Malik is at No. 5.

As per the online poll, these "sexiest men" have gone beyond their stardom "to make a positive impact", thereby buttressing their sexiness further.

Prabhas enjoys being called an action star

With massive hits such as ‘Saaho’ and the ‘Baahubali’ franchise under his belt, Prabhas is on a career high. The actor, known for his pan India appeal, is one of the most highly paid stars. In fact, he is best known for his high octane action sequences, which have been much appreciated by fans. With Prabhas’s latest release raking in the moolah, filmmakers are scrambling to sign up the star. However, he is known to take his time while choosing his projects, which usually take time to be made. His next film is reportedly ‘Amour’, which also stars Pooja Hegde. In a recent interview, the actor said that his towering height (6’0) helps him in his action sequences and makes his stunts look even more authentic. He said that 17 years ago when he made his debut, his director had decided to have just two action sequences, but after seeing how good Prabhas looked on screen performing stunts, he added one more action scene. It was after this, he added, that filmmakers started giving him more action packed films.

After a short break, Prabhas will start work on ‘Amour’, which is being made by Radha Krishna Kumar.

Spotlight on Prabhas’ role in Saaho

The makers of Young Rebel Star Prabhas’ ongoing action adventurous thriller, Saaho, are all are to kick-start the ambitious UAE schedule later this month. A whopping 40 crore will be spent on this 2 month-long schedule, where several breathtaking action sequences will be canned under Hollywood stunt coordinator Kenny Bates’ supervision.

Now, an interesting buzz on Prabhas’ role in Saaho has been doing the rounds in film circles. Apparently, Prabhas will be essaying the role of an international thief who later turns a police informer. However, this is merely a speculation and we will have to wait until the film’s release to know the full picture.

Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor is the film’s leading lady, while Neil Nitin Mukesh is the chief antagonist. Young filmmaker Sujeeth is helming this prestigious trilingual film, which is being produced under UV Creations banner with a whopping 150 crore budget.

Prabhudeva to Team up with Prabhas

Prabhas became a pan-Indian phenomenon after the terrific success of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. Currently, he's the most happening star in Indian cinema and has been getting a lot of interest from across industries.

According to latest reports, Prabhudheva is all set to direct the Baahubali star in a film. Speaking about the collaboration, Prabhudheva was quoted by Deccan Chronicle as saying, "Prabhas is a dear friend. I’ve known him from the time he set foot in Tamil-Telugu cinema. In fact, he sportingly did a cameo appearance in my Hindi film, Action Jackson. I’d love to direct him. But, it’s definitely not just because Baahubali has happened. There’s no point in doing a film together just because it makes business. I have been thinking of a film with Prabhas for a while now. Right now, he’s busy with his next Telugu film Saaho, post which we will do our film together." However, it isn't clear if it's a Telugu-Hindi bilingual.

It must be noted that Prabhas made a guest appearance in Prabhudheva's Hindi film Action Jackson. The Mirchi star has began work on his forthcoming film Saaho, which is being directed by Sujeeth Reddy. Made on a budget of Rs 150 crore, Anushka Shetty is rumoured to be playing the leading lady.

Tipped to be an action thriller, Saaho is slated to release next year.

Prabhas rescued Bollywood

Not Salman Khan, but Prabhas rescued Bollywood in the first half of 2017

Prabhas became the knight in shining Armour for Bollywood in the first of 2017

Article Credits : Bollywoodlife.com

It would be an understatement to say that the first six months of 2017 have been a lacklustre for Bollywood. This year has witnessed a serious drought of hits in the first half. If we were to actually list down the hits in the first half of 2017 – there’s Raees, Kaabil, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Hindi Medium and Jolly LLB 2. That’s it! Each of them have crossed the Rs 100 crore mark and received positive reviews. But no Bollywood film has shattered records or set a shining example in 2017 so far. The industry would have witnessed its lowest of lows this year had it not been for one film that redeemed this situation. This film we are talking about happens to be a South movie. This movie’s dubbed Hindi version not just crossed the Rs 200- 300 crore mark but the unimaginable Rs 500 crore mark that has now become a new benchmark in Bollywood! We are of course talking about Baahubali: The Conclusion.

After a not-so-eventful first quarter in Bollywood, Prabhas, SS Rajamouli and team more than made up for the for next three months with Baahubali 2. When Baahubali 2 released in theatres, a revolution broke out! Here was a game changing movie that set a fine example for a novel concept, gripping characters, exemplary VFX and sharp direction. Prabhas was not just the hero of Bahaubali 2 but also became the knight in shining armour for Bollywood. Not Salman Khan but this Telugu star saved the industry from utter doldrums with just one film! And here’s how he did it:

Regional going national – Like we mentioned before, Baahubali 2 is originally a Telugu film that had dubbed versions in Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam. This magnum opus on release became the first south film to receive a phenomenal PAN-India response. It bridged the gap between south and Bollywood cinema. The Hindi version was received as well as any other Bollywood film and it took the BO by storm. Baahubali was no longer just a south film, but a shining example in Indian cinema for all industries.

From a dark horse to a superstar – Prabhas was already a star because of Baahubali: The Beginning but his fame catapulted to unimaginable heights when Part 2 hit theatres. He became a phenomenon not only on screen but also off screen. The low-profile, simple actor fast became one of the most talked about personalities across the world. He was already the darling of masses but he became the darling of Bollywood with this film. He along with the Baahubali 2 team proved that it only takes a great character and a powerful story to rule any industry.

Defeated the Box office Kings – Bumper box office collections in Bollywood are usually synonymous with the three Khans – Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan. Each of them have set an example for earth shattering records. But their records now seem a thing of the past, courtesy Prabhas’ Bahaubali 2. The film’s Hindi version is the only movie to have raked in a whopping Rs 500 crore at the Indian BO. Aamir Khan’s Dangal, Salman Khan’s Sultan came as close as Rs 380 crore, Rs 300 crore respectively but nothing more. Forget Salman Khan, Prabhas is the newly crowned Box office king!

Crazy BO numbers – First day collection at Rs 100 crore, opening weekend collection grossing at Rs 500 crore, 10 day collection amounted to the never imagined 1000 crore! This movie boasts of countless such Box office records. With respect to its collection at Bollywood box office, this film became the only movie to cross the unimaginable Rs 500 crore at the BO. No Bollywood film has managed this feat. It took a south film’s Hindi version to achieve this feat.

Daredevil concept – What made this historical drama a movie to remember was its daredevil concept. No director before SS Rajamouli had the guts to take on a gruelling, time-consuming concept like this. To add to it, the story was a original screenplay whose roots lay in mythological tales that we all love.

Also, there was no actor before Prabhas who committed 5 years to a single film! With a good director comes an even better actor!

As the first half of 2017 comes to a close, Bollywood has a movie to thank for saving its face but at the same time it will remind the industry of the high, unimaginable standards this magnum opus has set. Every Shah Rukh , Salman, Aamir film that releases hereon will be compared to this historical drama, whether it’s needed or not, whether it’s liked it or not. Also we will always remember that a south film starring a south star once saved this industry at a time when it was needed.

Looks like Baahubali will be Bollywood’s boon and bane. What do you think?

Baahubali 2 gets phenomenal opening in India

Filmmaker SS Rajamouli's much-anticipated Baahubali: The Conclusion has opened to fantastic response from fans across the world.

After having waited for two years, SS Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali: The Conclusion is finally in theaters and has opened to rave reception from critics and audience alike.

Released in over 9000 screens worldwide, the Prabhas-starrer has received phenomenal response from the audience.

As per early trade estimates, Baahubali 2 is expected to do a whopping business of Rs 100 crore on its opening day.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to Twitter to share the news.
Meanwhile, noted trade analyst Taran Adarsh said:
In India alone, Baahubali 2 is hitting the screens in over 6,500 screens. Earlier this week, the film had a terrific response in advance booking sales. The craze was so much that the ticking website BookMyShow issued a statement saying that they have sold out a million tickets for the sequel.

According to trade pundits, Baahubali 2 is very likely to emerge as the highest grossing Indian films of all time, raking in at least Rs 1000 crore.

Baahubali: The Beginning ended with Katappa revealing himself as the killer of Amarendra Baahubali. And The Conclusion takes the story forward from where its predecessor ended.

Made on a budget of Rs 250 crore, the film has already fetched enough moolah for the producers and reportedly raked in Rs 500 crore through its satellite and distribution rights.

Baahubali 2 is released in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi. Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah, Sathyaraj and Ramya Krishnan star in pivotal roles in this instalment of Baahubali too.

Prabhas believed in the film from day one : Rajamouli

SS Rajamouli said that his lead actor Prabhas was confident since the beginning that Baahubali will do very well.

Baahubali: The Beginning broke box office records and made SS Rajamouli one of the most sought-after directors in the country. In fact, though Baahubali: The Conclusion's release date is almost here, fans can't wait to know why Katappa killed Baahubali. The filmmaker opened up about the epic saga at the book launch of Anand Neelakantan's The Rise of Sivagami, which is a prequel to the Baahubali films.

Rajamouli said that his journey as a director has had its share of highs and lows, but when it came to Baahubali, it was his lead actor Prabhas who believed in the film since the beginning. "Prabhas had utmost confidence in the film from day one of the shoot. He kept insisting that we are making an international film. He pushed and motivated us," he said.

He also revealed at the event that his magnum opus will not be released in 3D, because "3D gives depth, but doesn't capture the scale." Producer Shobu Yarlagadda also said that visual effects are a major part of the film, but it is the content which will bring audience to the theatres.

Baahubali: The Conclusion will release on April 28, reportedly across 6500 screens. The film stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah, Sathyaraj and Ramya Krishnan.

'Baahubali: The Conclusion', on location report

Article Credits : Screendaily.com

The first part of SS Rajamouli’s Telugu-language epic, Baahubali: The Beginning, stormed the Indian box office and sold to 30 territories. Now the follow-up has set its sights on further international success.

A Mahishmati king, covered in the bloody gore and deep gashes of battle, is standing in front of a monitor reviewing a playback of his last scene. Seemingly satisfied, he strides back out to the set of Baahubali: The Conclusion, an ancient Indian citadel on a backlot of Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City, which is suitably immense but somewhat truncated. After all, mighty statues, pillars and other pieces of medieval masonry only need to soar so high before they are finished off with visual effects.

“We’ve built everything that the actors need to physically interact with,” explains Shobu Yarlagadda, producer of two-part Telugu-language epic Baahubali. “Everything else you see on screen is CGI.”

It was a combination of VFX spectacle and director SS Rajamouli’s epic storytelling - which recalls Hollywood blockbusters of the era of the original Ben-Hur - that made the first part of the combined $50m production, Baahubali: The Beginning, such a success.

Produced by Yarlagadda’s Arka Mediaworks, the film opened in July 2015 and grossed around $85m in India across versions in three languages (Telugu, Tamil and Hindi). A slightly shorter international version, edited by France’s Vincent Tabaillon and handled by former EuropaCorp executive Francois Da Silva, received wide festival play and was sold to 30 territories. It has grossed around $12m in 10 territories, with releases in South Korea and Japan scheduled for the second quarter of 2017.

What’s remarkable about these numbers is that they were achieved without international stars. Prabhas, who plays the hero Baahubali, and Rana Daggubati, who plays the villain Bhallaladeva, are huge in the Telugu and Tamil-speaking states of southern India, but don’t guarantee box office in the Hindi-speaking north.

However, a Hindi-dubbed version of the film, presented to local audiences by Bollywood producer Karan Johar, shattered records for a dubbed version of a southern film by grossing $18m. “We expected gradual pick-up in the Hindi-speaking states, so it was a big surprise when it became an immediate hit,” says Rajamouli. “I think it worked because audiences are not used to seeing this kind of scale and visual extravagance in an Indian movie; and they could relate to the characters and their emotions at a basic level.”

The film also worked well with the Indian diaspora, despite the fact overseas Indians mostly follow Bollywood (ie Hindi-speaking) stars, and found success in some territories such as Taiwan that don’t have a large Indian community. “We had confidence in our product and knew they’d like it if they came to the theatres,” says Rajamouli. “We just didn’t know if we could market it well.”

The critical response, both in India and overseas, suggests that, apart from the spectacle, audiences were drawn to what is basically a rollicking good story, along with Prabhas’s portrayal of the muscle-bound hero as charming and relatable, rather than distant and stoic.

OVERSEAS AMBITIONS:

Although pleased with the international reception - in the US, the film grossed around $7m across the three language versions - Yarlagadda says he is expecting bigger overseas box office for the second part, Baahubali: The Conclusion, which is shooting now and scheduled for release in India on April 28, 2017.

While the first part performed strongly in some territories, Yarlagadda feels it could have gone further in others. “Germany, for example, had a lukewarm theatrical response, although DVD sales were strong,” he explains. China box office was also lower than expected as the film had its release date postponed, and eventually went up against Jackie Chan’s Skiptrace and popular Japanese animation Doraemon. “But I feel like we made inroads in some of these territories and we’re hoping the second part will have a greater impact. At least we’ve raised awareness and people are talking about the film.”

Rajamouli explains that the second part was always going to focus more on drama and emotions - as it will resolve several story threads from the first part - but after seeing how much audiences loved the first film’s epic battle scenes, he realised he would also have to crank up the action quotient.

“It was written as a story in two parts; this is not a sequel, but after the success of the first part we revisited the script,” says Rajamouli, who wrote the film with his father Vijayendra Prasad (who also wrote Bhaijaan Bajrangi, the biggest Hindi hit of 2015). “We’ve made the action scenes bigger but the basic storyline remains the same.”

Around 40% of Baahubali: The Conclusion was filmed at the same time as the first part, at Ramoji Film City and other locations in India and Bulgaria. Located on the outskirts of Hyderabad, the heart of the Telugu film industry, Ramoji is one of the world’s largest studio complexes, housing soundstages, palaces, temples and many other outdoor sets spread over a 2,000-acre site.

Founded by producer and media mogul Ramoji Rao, the studios also part-financed Baahubali through a loan and in-kind services. Yarlagadda and his producing partner Prasad Devineni have managed to pull together mostly the same cast and crew for the second part - no mean feat given the busy schedules of actors and technicians in the Telugu and Chennai-based Tamil film industries.

Tabaillon is also on board again to cut an international version. However, VFX supervisor Srinivas Mohan had a prior commitment to work with Tamil star Rajinikanth and director Shankar on Robot 2.0. He has been replaced by another long-time Rajamouli collaborator, Kamal Kannan, who is working with VFX houses including Hyderabad-based Makuta, Chennai-based Prasad EFX, WOPR in Denmark and Post Modern in Ukraine.

FRANCHISE TREATMENT :

Also keeping Yarlagadda busy is a wide range of ancillary and transmedia products, including comics, novels, mobile games and an animated TV series, some of which Arka is developing jointly with Graphic India, owned by Liquid Comics and Peter Chernin’s CA Media.

“We’ve spent a long time developing the back stories,” says Yarlagadda. Arka has also teamed with US-based AMD and John Griffith’s CNCPT on a VR film, the first scenes of which will be released in October, and is in talks with Awesome Rocketship to roll out VR pods across India to help local audiences experience the film.

All this activity marks the first time a film property has been given the full-blown franchise treatment in India. But Yarlagadda says we shouldn’t expect to see a flood of blockbusters out of Hyderabad just yet.

Rajamouli has already spent four years working on the two films, including more than a year developing an original story, which is inspired by Indian mythology but not based on existing texts. “There aren’t many film-makers in India who will devote that much time to one project - or who can convince cast and crew to put their lives on hold,” Yarlagadda explains.

Rajamouli, who previously directed a string of hits across different budget ranges, says he is likely to make something smaller for his next project. But whatever he turns his hand to, he can rest assured that he has already changed perceptions of Indian cinema globally.

“Before Baahubali, most people around the world were only aware of Bollywood, but now they know there’s a film industry in south India that makes its own kind of films,” he says. “We’re quite proud of that.”

Prabhas doing a cameo in Surya's Singam 3 ?

Surya's Singam 3 a.k.a S3, the 3rd of the blockbuster Singam series is releasing shortly on December 16. The latest news on the movie is that a popular Telugu Actor is doing a cameo in S3. It is widely believed that it is none other than our darling Prabhas. Another mind blowing feel is that, as Surya plays a Police Officer in Singam, will Prabhas too be seen in a police role? If that happens it will be a real awesome moment for Prabhas fans. However there is no official announcement yet on this. Meanwhile the Tamil press is going gaga over twitter that Prabhas is that special hero! Lets wait and see.

Prabhas undergoes rigorous training for one scene of Baahubali

The filming of the sequel to SS Rajamouli’s Bahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali: The Conclusion is going on in full swing. The entire cast and crew is making sure they try to exceed the standards they set with the first instalment of the period drama.

For instance, Prabhas underwent 30 days of training in order to shoot one particular action sequence. Prabhas who is known for his fitness, in real as well as reel life has not left any stone unturned for this scene as he wanted to give it his all.

We hear that each action sequence requires a lot of rehearsals and prep time for it to be shot correctly. As Baahubali: The Beginning itself had some marvellous action scenes, the sequel is set to go a notch higher!
