Baahubali on verge of creating New Record in Chennai

SS Rajamouli's "Baahubali" has emerged as one of the biggest hits in Chennai. The movie has made fantastic collection and has broken several records. Now, it is on the verge of beating Ajith's "Yennai Arindhaal" record.

The combined collection of the two versions (Tamil+Telugu) of "Baahubali" in Chennai stands at Rs. 5.52 crore by the end of its third weekend, reports Behindwoods. It has already beaten the record of 2015 hits like "Kanchana 2", which had raked in Rs. 5.16 crore, Kamal Haasan starrer "Papanasam", which is still running in theatres and so far has earned Rs. 4.2 crore and Suriya's "Massu", which grossed Rs. 4.1 crore in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

Now, the next target for "Baahubali" is Ajith Kumar's "Yennai Arindhaal", which made Rs. 5.72 crore and is in the second position in the list of highest grossing movie at the Chennai box office in 2015. The SS Rajamouli's flick requires about Rs. 20 lakh to beat it and it is expected to make the amount in its third week.

However, we have to wait and see whether "Baahubali" can beat the record of Vikram's "I", which made a lifetime business of Rs. 8.82 crore in Chennai. For this record to beat, the multi-starrer movie has to retain the momentum and continuously perform well at collection centres for the next two weeks.

Meanwhile, the total collection of "Baahubali" in Tamil Nadu has crossed Rs. 50 crore. Even in the weekdays, the movie enjoys good occupancy.

"#Baahubali (Tamil) - Rock solid on Monday in TN ,18th day of release. Many screens occupancy 85 to 100 % for Noon & Matinee. Blockbuster," a leading critic and trade tracker tweeted about the Monday buzz.

But, the movie business has been affected after cinema halls in the entire state decided to remain shut on 30 July as a mark of respect to APJ Abdul Kalam, who passed away on 27 July.

"Baahubali" stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty and Tamanna Bhatia in the lead roles with Ramya Krishnan and Sathyaraj playing key characters.
