Lyricist Madhan Karky (son of National award winning lyricist Vairamuthu) began his career in Kollywood as a dialogue writer (with Endhiran/Robo) and he is now writing the Tamil dialogues for SS Rajamouli's Tamil-Telugu bilingual Mahaabali (Baahubali in Telugu). He says the dialogues in the fantasy epic, which stars Prabhaas, Anushka, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah, Ramya Krishnan, Sathyaraj and Nasser, will be in chaste Tamil.
In Selvaraghavan's 2010-film Aayirathil Oruvan, some portions had characters talking in ancient Tamil that many, at that time, had difficulty understanding."Since it is a period film, the dialogues have to be in chaste Tamil. However, we wanted it to be the kind of Tamil that everyone understands. So, it will be chaste and at the same time simple... closer to the dialogues in films like Manohara and Nadodi Mannan," says the lyric writer. At the same time, he adds that he is not using these films as references and is taking care to ensure that the language used in the film conveys the period the film is set in (which is an unspecified period and involves kings and princes).
Karky has also written dialogues for the upcoming Vai Raja Vai and is currently working on Venkat Prabhu's Masss. "Mahaabali is a totally different experience for me and I'm going to be occupied with this project till 2016 (the film will be released in two parts — the first one in 2015). So, I'm actually trying to take only one other dialogue writing project alongside this one till then," he says.
