Sun Distribution has acquired all rights throughout Latin America to Indian smash hit movie “Baahubali – The Beginning.” The company acquired the rights from Arka Mediaworks International and is working to set a regional release date.
The film is now the highest grossing film of all time in India and one of the top three in terms of cumulative worldwide grosses.
Directed by SS Rajamouli and produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni of Arka Mediaworks, the film enjoyed a 4,500 screen release in July.
The concluding, second instalment will be released in India at the end of 2016.
“’Baahubali’ has achieved so many things and acquired such a special position in Indian cinema that we are in the fortunate position of being able to negotiate with the top distributors in territories around the world,” said Francois Da Silva, the former EuropaCorp producer and Cannes Directors Fortnight programmer who heads Arka Mediaworks International.
Other recent sales include Creative Century Entertainment for Taiwan, and Entermode Corp for Korea. It was previously sold widely in South East Asia and to China. Further deals in Europe are pending.
